Rootscratch PSGC API Has Been Discontinued
Rootscratch’s hosted PSGC API has been discontinued. Learn what remains available, what existing integrations need to change, and the status of a possible return.

The hosted Rootscratch PSGC API is no longer available. If your website or application still calls its endpoints, you’ll need to move those requests to another data source.
We’re considering bringing the project back, but there is no confirmed return date. Please don’t rely on a possible relaunch when planning your next steps.
What the project did
Rootscratch PSGC provided access to Philippine geographic information based on the Philippine Standard Geographic Code. Developers could use it for location lookups and address forms, including selections for regions, provinces, cities or municipalities, and barangays.
The project also included an open-source PHP client for making requests to the hosted API.
What remains available
The PHP client repository remains publicly available under the MIT license, but it is archived. The rootscratch/psgc package on Packagist is also marked as abandoned and no longer maintained.
That repository contains the client, not the complete API backend or geographic database. Cloning or installing it will not restore the discontinued service.
If your application still depends on it
Check where your application calls the Rootscratch PSGC endpoints, especially address forms and location selectors.
Before replacing the integration:
- Review the replacement’s data source, update date, licensing, and availability.
- Compare geographic codes and response fields with the values your application already stores.
- Test dependent selections and existing saved addresses.
- Provide a clear fallback when location data cannot load, rather than leaving users with an empty dropdown.
The archived documentation referenced PSGC data from the fourth quarter of 2024. Treat those records as historical, not as a current geographic dataset.
Could Rootscratch PSGC return?
We’re considering it. For now, the hosted service remains discontinued, and we have no confirmed relaunch timeline to share.
