Define the workflow
A payment redirect is only one part of the job. Orders should move to paid status after a verified server-side result. We define pending, successful, failed, cancelled and refunded states so staff can see what happened and what needs attention.

How we validate the result
We test repeated callbacks, delayed confirmations, user abandonment and interrupted browser sessions. A successful browser return alone must not mark an order paid. Secrets stay on the server, and raw card details are kept out of application storage wherever the provider's hosted flow supports that design.
